Re: charley girl

The biopsy is the only way they can do a certain diagnosis of HSP (based on some of the changes in the blood and tissue in the kidneys) although most HSP is diagnosed without a biopsy. It also helps them to determine how much damage has been done to the kidney which tells them how aggressively they ...

Re: Best news yet!!

Let's see....she started them March 25 2008. In May, she was given a PICC line, which is basically a semipermanent IV and she was receiving mega-doses of IV steroids throughout May and June. She went back to oral steroids and was finally weaned off them entirely in December 2008. She's had to do a c...

Re: charley girl

Hi Charley Girl I'm so sorry I am just now able to reply to you. We have been buried under a mountain of stuff, some fun, like a family wedding and some not so fun, like the flu for Lars and me and some other health concerns with Meredith. We do try to be on top of this board, but I am heartened to ...

Re: 3 year old with HSP

Hi Pam I'm glad you found us and I'm really glad you got such an early diagnosis. I'm curious of they were monitoring Cal's protein levels in his urine before it turned dark? I just wonder if that's normal protocol upon diagnosis or not... Does Cal understand what's going on with him? I've often tho...

Re: Light at the end of the tunnel

Hi Laurie That's terrific news! Yay for Matthew!!! :D :D :D :D Let's hope it stays that way for him! I'm feeling pretty good because Meredith had her gallbladder removed last week, and although the recovery was a bit rough, she is feeling better, and I'm hoping that will be our last trip to the hosp...

Re: Frustration Sets In

Teresa, I so understand how you are feeling! I would pick one doctor with whom you feel you have the best rapport and ask them to be the captain of your medical team. I think it's important to have as much continuity as you can, and while if you are off to the ER, you get who you get, but by asking ...

Re: Helpful Websites

Thank YOU for letting me know about this glitch! We'll be spending some time on it this weekend to update some pages and see if we can't get the site map on this part of the site as well.

Re: Abdominal pain

Hi John I'm sorry that your pain has continued. The pain was the worst part of Meredith's HSP, at least when it was most severe. If you look under the "Patient's Perspective" page (a few rows down), there is another adult HSP sufferer who said that her belly pain with HSP has been worse th...

Navigating this site

Laurie's post made me wonder if anyone is seeing / finding any value in the other pages on this site. We've set it up so that the discussion board opens in a new browser window, but now I'm wondering if that means people have found this and never see any of the other pages? I'd be curious to know......
